Polynesian acoustic

Something a wee bit different with this one.  This is an Indie acoustic, model 'The dude'.  The back, sides and neck are mahogany; with a rosewood fretboard and dark wood headstock veneer combined with a super smooth, natural feeling satin/matt finish this guitar has a lovely rustic, natural feel. It's a great sounding and very playable guitar.

With the dark wood and matt finish I wanted to create some artwork that was in keeping with the overall feel of the guitar.  I chose to use colours more muted than usual.  The areas that are painted to look like carved wood, inspired by polnesian style carvings and tattoos, are painted with browns to match the darker woods of the guitar.  The other colours used where muted blues, greens and yellows to give the overall tone of the artwork a more vintage feel.

Then to finish it off; rather than the usual high gloss mirror finish, which wouldn't have been in keeping with the guitar; the artwork was aged slightly by crackling the surface a small amount, rubbing brown paint into the cracks and wiping off the excess.  Then I used a matt clearcoat to seal the lot and give a nice flatted, smooth finish to match the rest of the guitar.
